I’m going to write an email tomorrow to Otaku USA about the Paint it White review for Hetalia. The review was in the newest issue and it was written by Daryl Surat. He said this about the show and the fans:

“I’m not exactly within the established fanbase for Axis Powers Hetalia, a series that is first and foremost beloved by teenage girls - and some much older ladies - who are into implied male/male romance of the mostly underage variety. To the eyes of me, a guy in his 30s, Hetalia is to anime and manga what Justin Bieber is to music and The Twilight Saga is to books.”

This is a bit too far to me. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but I am not the fan described above nor are my friends. I know people who had their lives saved by the Hetalia fandom. I have met some of the most interesting people because of it as well as madelasting friends. And I reward any show that can make teenagers and young adults turn away from all the crap in mainstream media and look up historical references for fun.

And what about half of the anime out there which is big boobs flopping around, panty shots, and blood and gore splattering across the screen? At least Hetalia has deeper merit to it. Sure, the fandom isn’t perfect. Because the subject matter can be sensitive, you have people out there who gives it a bad name (i.e. Nazi cosplayers). But the beautiful individuals who have a deep, lasting love for this show are wonderful. I didn’t watch anime for almost five years because of college. I didn’t plan on getting back into it. But then I found Hetalia, and I love anime again. I want to work for FUNImation. I’m striving towards that goal. I’m going to be a guest blog writer for an anime website all because Hetalia. If anything, this anime and this fandom saved me from losing a passion I grew up with.

I’m waiting to write the editor though. I need a night to calm down. I don’t want to write something from complete anger and insult. This fandom means far too much to me to sound like an idiot.

I’m sorry, but comparing Hetalia to Twilight is an insult. Stephenie Meyer couldn’t write a metaphor or a strong female character if someone held a gun to her head. She wrote a series about an abusive relationship telling girls it’s okay for your boyfriend to leave bruises all over your body in a so-called act of love. Almost every one of Hima-Papa’s jokes has a reference in history. They are not even in the same league.

Thanks to the fabulous @jessiepridemore , here’s the first of my new cosplay pictures of Nyotalia Prussia. The pale makeup and wine red eyes make it sort of otherworldly, don’t you think?

It’s really fun to take photos with Jessie. I can always relax and be myself around her, it’s like there’s no pressure to be or act a certain way. She has a way of making me forget I’m in a costume. It’s quite refreshing, actually.

Anyone curious, the makeup is Kryolan Aquacolor in TV White and the contacts are Super Pinky Wine Red. They photograph pretty well, I think! It’s my first time wearing contacts in photos, but Kryolan Aquacolor is my go-to cosplay foundation in any color.

So, tomorrow is finally the day when Hetalia Paint It, White! comes out! (

It’s that time of year~ Time for Secret Santa sign-ups! Except, since this is Hetalia, it’s Secret Santa Finland!

Here’s basically how everything is going to work, keep up, it can get complicated.

You will write a letter to your Secret Santa Finland. It will need to include certain facts. I will pass the letter, not list, letter, onto your Secret Santa Finland. Do Not Tell Anyone Who You Got! It’s part of the fun. :) And, No Complaining! If you have a serious concern, let me know, and I will arrange for something if needed.

Your name

3-5 things you like or enjoy about Hetalia. ( fav characters, pairings, historical features, etc.)

1 thing you don’t like ( like, no yaoi, or your parents are anti-anime, so it has to be small, etc.)

Your Age Group; select one of the following.
>13, 13-18, 18+

Your E-Mail Address

And which “bracket” you prefer.
You can give&receive a physical item, such as a keychain OR
You can give&receive a virtual item, such as fanart, fanfiction, etc.
You can NOT give fanart and get a keychain.


If you choose the Physical Bracket, you will ship your gift to an address I will provide you, and from there I will send it on to the recipient.

EDIT: Do Not Forget to send me your mailing address!

In order to receive your gift, you must have given me $4. You can do this in person at AAD, via Paypal, or you can send it with your gift that you send me. In order to do the last choice, you must tell me that its in there, because I do not plan on opening and repackaging everyone’s gifts just in case. Do Not forget to give me your address, or I shall have no where to send your present!
